Top songs on the Minnesota Sound playlist.

Elle PF "Ultimatum"
Elle PF’s new single “Ultimatum” is a dreamy indie rock tune with a lot of heart. The track features spacey electric guitar riffs and synthesizers under a gorgeous vocal melody. The harmonies are exquisite and the production is top notch. “Ultimatum” has a larger than life sound, reminiscent of bands like Beach House and Tame Impala. The song is the first of two singles the band has released this year.

Posheeda Noor "Heavy Dust"
Posheeda Noor delivers a nostalgic sound on the track “Heavy Dust.” Drawing on sounds from 70’s rock bands like Pink Floyd, Noor’s music is relaxing rock. Mellow acoustic and electric guitar strumming flows atop a soothing and simple drum track. The vocals are awash in a pleasant sea of delay. The song has psychedelic overtones but remains grounded and maintains a medium energy throughout. The lengthy lead guitar melody on the back end of the track is a definite highlight.

Languid "Never Meant To Be"
“Never Meant To Be” begins as an acoustic driven indie-rock track, but transforms into a more punk influenced rock track by the mid point. The song has a respectable amount of variety, with lots of stops and starts. Singing, shouting, and harmonies all work together to infuse the trajectory of this song with an even wider array of sounds. The instrumental is tight, cohesive and creative. Like paint on a canvas, Languid uses many different rythmns and textures to create an immersive and fascinating track.

Weekend Picnic "Initials on a Tree"
“Initials on a Tree” opens with a quick, grooving electric guitar. The vocals enter with a confident and dramatic tone. A string section and piano add texture as the song continues. Weekend Picnic shows an impressive amount of restraint, allowing the song almost three full minutes before dropping a drum section and distortion into the instrumental. The result is an incredibly satisfying experience that justifies multiple listens.

Serious Machine "Cherry Blossom Dream"
“Cherry Blossom Dream” has a very organic, indie tone to it. The song opens with a dusty tom drum plodding through the silence. The mix is impressively spatially aware and gives the track a very human touch. Serious Machine’s vocals carry an incredible amount of emotion. The tonal range and variety of intensity are captivating. The instrumental includes scratchy electric and thumping bass guitars. “Cherry Blossom Dream” is a must-listen track from this year.

Full Catholic "Orbits"
“Orbits” is an indie-electronic track featuring synthesizers, scattered guitar lines and a vocal duet. The song is full of energy. The mix is tight, yet the sounds remain expansive and raw. Rising synthesizer leads clash with anthemic vocal lines atop crashing drums and a prominent bass line. The track ends in a glorious crescendo of noise that is guaranteed to captivate and impress.
