Top songs on the Minnesota Sound Playlist.

Humbird "Heavy"
“Heavy” is a somber and haunting folk song. Opening with a tender abstraction of gentle upright piano and stringed instruments. The track gives way to fingerpicked verses and swelling choruses with an array of sonic textures that come and go. A string section rises and falls beneath Humbird’s beautiful and sincere vocal melodies. The song is undeniably rooted in folk music but presents a much more ambitious and expansive take on the genre. The song comes from Humbird’s latest LP “Still Life.”

Creepy Monday "Shutin"
“Shutin” opens with thundering drums, washed out electric guitar, and energetic vocals. The track is an intriguing blend between indie, alternative, and shoe gaze. Several atmospheric breaks present a more introspective side to the track but quickly return to the anthemic gang vocals that carry the song. The final minute of the song is a more stripped down acoustic version of the chorus that closes the track out perfectly. “Shutin” is Creepy Mondays first release this year.

Long Dick Millionaire Entertainment, Da Muffin Mayng, Muja Massiah "Gods"
“Gods” is a hip-hop banger with a dry trap drum track. The instrumental is sparse with only the occasional melodic synth sprinkled throughout the track. The song strips modern hip-hop down to its most basic rhythmic elements and showcases the power of lyricism and electronic drums. “Gods” is the third track off the collaborative “John Pilliams EP” which was released this year.

Double Grave "Late"
“Late” is an indie rock track with early 2000’s acoustic rock sound. The track is underpinned with simple drums and overlaid with a piercing electric guitar lead that plays nicely off the vocals. The song is both nostalgic and introspective with lyrics like “After all this time I should be better at showing how I owe it all to you” and “Had to figure things out on my own, had to break away, make my own mistakes.” To hear more from Double Grave check out their latest single “Weed Song.”

E66s "Midnight Cruise"
“Midnight Cruise” is a lo-fi instrumental featuring a mellow Rhodes, scratchy vinyl static, and Broken down hip-hop drums. The track is relaxing  and vibey. E66s’ music is aesthetically focused and intricate. Delicate instrumentals and nostalgic samples create an atmosphere that’s perfect for late night drives and rainy afternoons. “Midnight Cruise” comes from E66s latest LP “Cinnamon Summer.”

DNM "Shiny"
“Shiny” is the first official release from DNM, a pop sensible indie track with sparkling production and shimmering vocal melodies. The song is spacey, with reverberating synthesizers and soaring chord progressions. The track opens with a simple guitar which flows into a four on the floor rhythm that carries the rest of the song. “Shiny” is an engaging and satisfying experience from front to back, be on the lookout for new releases from DNM.
