Top songs on the Minnesota Sound Playlist.

Gully Boys "Favorite Son"
“Favorite Son” is the title track off Gully Boys new five-track EP. The song features fuzzy guitars, energetic drums and passionate vocals. This track is dripping with electric energy that builds until it is released in a crescendo of pure grunge rock glory. Be sure to check out the full EP “Favorite Son” for more!

The Hermits "Year of the Rat"
Duluth based, garage rock group The Hermits go absolutely buck wild on the track “Year of the Rat.” If ever there were a song to get your blood pumping and your head banging this is the one. The track is heavy and it’s awesome. The spoken/shouted vocals are interspersed with maniacal laughter and have an undertone of psychedelia to them. The real star of the show here is the guitar. It’s huge, it’s intense and it’s relentless. Check out the bands latest EP “If!”

Stormbreaker "Never Again"
Stormbreaker provides a modern yet nostalgic version of arena rock with their track “Never Again.” The song sounds like it belongs on guitar hero, with dueling electric guitars and vocals that are reminiscent of Dragon Force. The mix is clean and the passion is palpable. “Never Again” is the second single off the bands upcoming album “Strike The Match.”

Kiernan Tollefson "Forever and Always"
“Forever and Always” is a beautiful showcase of the versatility of acoustic guitar. The piece is relaxing and emotionally moving, even meditative. Tollefson clearly has a passion for the instrument and uses its simplicity to his advantage. The song ebbs and flows between slower chords and rapid finger-tapping, all run through a peaceful wash of reverb. Be sure to check out Tollefsons newest single “Sorry to Leave!”

Obstructionist "Knives"
Melodic punk/hardcore band Obstructionist provide breakneck tempos and screaming guitar riffs on their new single “Knives.” The vocals are buried in the mix, creating an immersive sound full of harmonies and dynamic. The song is decidedly punk but features calmer sections with more low-key guitar chords that sound almost like a synth pad. The band is scheduled to release their first full-length album later this month!

Stock Market Cinema "Wasting Time"
Indie-pop duo Stock Market Cinema finds an excellent balance of electronic production and indie rock band sensibilities with their first single “Wasting Time.” The song has rock undertones but  keeps a chill energy level throughout and features a pop sensible outro. The guitars switch from nicely crunchy to relaxingly clean tones. The song has plenty of change ups and sonic ear candy to keep the listener engaged.
