NATL PARK SRVC / THE COLD CASUALS / KARATE CHOP, SILENCE - 7TH ST ENTRY - 07/28/2021
Our writer, Eric Martin, attended last week’s sold-out show at the 7th St Entry headlined by NATL PARK SRVC and also featuring killer performances from The Cold Casuals and Karate Chop, Silence. Below are their thoughts and pictures from the night.
The exceptionally tight Karate Chop, Silence punched, chopped, and kicked off the night with a disciplined attack. Throwing in moves borrowed from rock, funk, jazz, synth pop, jam, and countless other musical arts, this group commanded the respect of the growing crowd.
The Cold Casuals served up an unmatchable display of true-to-the-word, unembellished down-home rock n roll. Most bands have an edge, a gimmick, or a twist to try to differentiate themselves from the crowd; instead The Cold Casuals’ thing is taking everything you love about rock and doing it so goddamn well that they control the crowd.
Sporting a sax-, trombone-, and a violin-ist not as accessories but as full-blown, integral pieces of the band, NATL PARK SRVC can pack out a stage and a crowd. Their raucous show was filled to the brim with tunes from their new album, The Dance, and the septet’s set included shout-along highlights such as “The Sharks” and “The Funeral.” Although their grandiose tracks already promise explosive energy, the group somehow exceeds these expectations to a startling degree. With a jovially ramshackle encore performed for the chanting sold-out crowd, NPS proved without a doubt the more the merrier. NATL PARK SRVC reflects on the incredible night in their statement to Melodic Noise below:
