MINNESOTA SOUND REVIEWS - 8/4/21
J.Prymglz, M.I.S.T.A., LEGACY, Walrus the Human, Skydro "We Are All Gonna Carry That Weight"
"We Are All Gonna Carry That Weight" by J.Prymglz features a slew of artists including M.I.S.T.A., LEGACY, Walrus the Human and Skydro. The song begins with a serene intro which gives way to an anthemic and energetic chorus. Three hip hop verses are interplayed with the chorus over a 4/4 beat leaving the six and a half minute track with plenty of lyricism to explore. Courtney Yasamineh "Just Another Cowboy"
Courtney Yasamineh’s song “Just Another Cowboy” is a classic country bop. Acoustic guitars and drums interplayed with a gorgeous pedal steel soar beneath the vocals as Courtney croons a nostalgic tune. “Yippie ki yo yippie ki yay, yippie ki yay, just another cowboy riding away.” This track is guaranteed to have you searching for the nearest beer tent at a local county fair this summer. Check out Courtney Yasamineh’s new album “Red Roses and Cowgirl Dreams.”
DeliCat “Sad Drugs”
A squealing guitar amp breaks the silence of this track and prepares you for the distorted production and thundering drums of “Sad Drugs” by DeliCat. The duo works remotely creating DIY music with a raw energy and melancholy lyrics like “say no to sad drugs tonight.” The collage filled album artwork is a perfect pair for this song’s chaotic yet beautiful sound. This track is #6 off the bands latest album “Short Life, Long Tooth.”
My Idle Little Fingers “ANGELS”
Minneapolis Duo My Idle Little Fingers presents “ANGELS”, a song packed with sonic motion. A spastic piano line turns into a hyper synth bass sound with automated reverb. The strained and passionate verse vocals give way to a more subdued chorus. The overdrive on the drum track rises and falls throughout the chorus of the song. There are so many sounds jammed into this one track and it works perfectly.
Lizea Harper “Caffeine”
Lizea Harper provides a catchy, pop sensible track with her latest single “Caffeine.” Gentle trap drums and a dreamy instrumental run under Harpers infectious vocals. The song is full of yearning with lyrics like “you give me such a rush, like caffeine, your love gives me energy.”
Ditchbird “Better than Nothing”
Social Animals member Tony Peterson’s solo project, Ditchbird, finds the artist exploring the sounds of rock and roll and blues on “Better than Nothing.” Fuzzy guitars, that sound like they could come straight off a Black Keys record, permeate the track. Folk influenced lyricism, a driving drum groove, and a soulful electric guitar solo complete the song and leave the listener wanting more. Check out Ditchbird’s latest album “Real Enough for You Now” which was released earlier this year.
