Rob Tossava is a local legend in the Minnesota Punk Rock Scene. Incredibly nice guy. He’s also fighting the Big-C. So, on September 17th, 2023, bands and local musicians came together to raise money for Rob’s struggles and show their support to one of the biggest music fans there is. Rob’s GoFundMe is almost at it’s goal, so please consider donating.

Rob Tossava.

Rob joined the bands and belted out some his favorite tunes.

First up was the Fret Rattles. I’ve written about them before….but WOW! just WOW! MC5 hooked up to jumper cables. Fantastic live band. Amazing way to start the night.

Next up was Virgin Whores. Great band. They really capture the UK-82 punk vibe of GBH, Discharge and UK Subs.

After the Virgin Whores, the mighty Vacant hit the stage. I’ve never seen them before…really great snarl and growl. Straight forward angry punk rock.

Then came the mighty Dillinger Four. A bedrock of the Minneapolis Punk Rock community for many years. Loud and aggressive. I fell in love with the battle-tested Bass and tried my best to capture it with a pic.

Ending the night was the mighty Goo Goo Mucks. Named after the famous Cramps song (originally done by Ronnie Cook and the Gaylads), the Goo Goo Mucks are a Minneapolis Super Group of musicians. With an ever rotating membership, the core group is Rob Sells and Joe Holland. Joe plays in Mad Mojo Jett, Low Rats and about a thousand other bands (I don’t think he takes a night off) and Rob plays guitar in Silent Treatment and Low Rats as well. Rounding out the Goo Goo Mucks membership is drummer Keely Lane. Besides Silent Treatment, he also drums in the Minneapolis band, Trailer Trash.

Tonight they had Christy Costello (from Monica Laplante and her own solo work), Dan Murphy, founding member of Soul Asylum, now slinging his axe with Scarlet Goodbye, Clair Luger of The Silent Treatment, Cindy Lawson (!!!) John Ensley from Bad Idea and New Rocket Union, Ben Andrew, Ben Bachman, Matt Benson and Rob Tossava! He joined the band on stage.

A great night. There isn’t a lot I can say about Rob and the night that hasn’t been said better and more eloquently about Mr. Tossava—so I won’t try to say anything too poetic…other than Rob, you have a lot of people in your corner.

Heal up. Rest is a weapon.
