Top songs on the Minnesota Sound Playlist.

TV Moms "Axe Ray Body Spray"
“Axe Ray Body Spray” features a sinister electric guitar, a droning bass line, and a huge acoustic drum kit. The song has a distinctly grunge feel to it. The vocals in particular are reminiscent of bands like Nirvana. A major highlight of the song is the screaming guitar lead with a sickening flanger and buzz, which happens during the second half. The track is the second song off the bands new full length EP “Buzz Mallory.”

Laura Nicholson "Bluebird"
Minnesota native Laura Nicholson’s first Spotify release “Bluebird” is a beautiful ballad with heavenly production. Nicholson’s voice is absolutely stunning. The track reminds me of artists like Kacey Musgraves, with a slight country flare. The instrumental features acoustic guitar, piano and subtle pedal steel to round it all out. Be sure to stay on the lookout for new releases from Nicholson. If they’re anything like this first one they will certainly not disappoint!

Acid Patch Kids "All High"
“All High” is an anthemic garage rock banger with an organic DIY sound. The vocals are dynamic, floating between nonchalant and incredibly passionate. The contrast is engaging and pairs nicely with the breakneck tom rhythm during the verses and blasting crash drums on the choruses. The guitars are fuzzy, the energy is there and the vibes are on point. Check out the bands latest single “Stick Shift Overdrive” on Spotify as well!

Birdhole "Sleep"
Four-piece punk/rock band Birdhole deliver a classic yet intricate performance on “Sleep,” the third and final track from the bands self titled debut EP. The clean guitar tone on the track is a personal highlight. The vocals hold nothing back with near shouted lines like “make me the monster” and “how the hell do you sleep.” To hear more be sure to checkout the full EP.

d'Lakes "Daily Holiday"
“Daily Holiday” is a bright and colorful track full of cheerful guitar licks and jubilant synth lines. The front and center vocal duet is uplifting and relaxing. The self described indie glam pop band also performs with two performance artists on stage and an array of projected visuals which sounds absolutely incredible. To hear more from d’lakes check out their latest LP “Unforgettable Cheer.”

Kyrie Nova "Nonbinary Orbit"
Bass guitar is presented front and center on the track “Nonbinary Orbit” from Kyrie Novas’s debut album “Cosmic Kaleidoscope. The track is fully instrumental and features a simple drum beat with dueling bass guitars and a droning synthesizer to back it all up. The song has a casual and comforting tone to it. Be sure to check out the rest of the LP, the third track “Cosmic Bodies” is another highlight!
