Top songs on the Minnesota Sound playlist.

Natalie Fideler "Judas"
“Judas” opens with an infectious bassline. Crisp guitars and boomy drums soon enter to fill out the track. Fideler leads the song with her powerful vocals. Adorned with few effects, the melodies are home to witty lyrics and tight harmonies. The back half of “Judas” sees the song evolve into something more grand and theatrical, finally wrapping up with a brief guitar solo and a final powerful chorus. This song comes from Natalie Fideler’s new project “Three Man Army.”

Jeffrey Robert Larson "Promises"
“Promises” is a gorgeous country ballad with a slow tempo and a strong duet at the forefront. Right away this song gives off a warm, familiar glow. Following a tried and true formula derived from great country music of the past, Larson delivers a perfect blend of every ingredient you want from this style of music: tremolo heavy guitars, a lazy, steady drum beat and absolutely stunning vocal performances.

Logan Michaels “III. CRISIS”
“CRISIS” opens with piercing distorted guitars. Fully expecting a heavy metal track I was surprised to find that Michaels spends the vast majority of the track rapping. The instrumental is distinctly rock/metal with a full drum kit, guitars and bass. The song has a great feature verse from Møøkie the Magician and ends up being a great mashup of two genres. This song comes from Michaels 2022 album “Absolute Depravity.”

Sarah Kayfes "Bittersweet"
“Bittersweet” is a simple indie-folk ballad featuring incredibly gentle guitar and soft ethereal vocals. The song is loaded with reverb, providing a calming, washed out feel. Kayfes breaks up the singing with a short poem at around the halfway point of the song before delving into a gentle build accompanied by whistling to finish out the track. To hear more from Kayfes check out her other single “Hesitation.”

Kyrie Nova "You Talk Too Much"
Kyrie Nova returns with an upbeat track full of bouncing bass and a four on the floor drum beat. The vocals are delivered in a spoken tone with a bit of attitude. The instrumental for “You Talk Too Much” is aggressive and ambitious. The drums are hitting hard and there are these amazing little breaks for high speed bass solos. The end of the track finds Nova shouting as the energy rises to a brief crescendo. Be sure to check out Kyrie Nova’s other single “Tiny Little Homes” which was also released this year!

Dissociate "Murk"
“Murk” is a five minute experimental electronic instrumental. Jam packed with fascinating bleeps and bloops this song takes its time to slowly evolve, changing subtly and adding/subtracting elements constantly. The mood of this track is dark and ominous, full of fuzzy synths and incessant, glitchy robotic sounds. The song has several distinct and driving grooves throughout, leaving the listener in moments of space before coming back even harder with a new, slightly altered beat. This is a split single so make sure to check out the other track “Slink.”
