Hyooman’s debut single “Half Brain” is a sunny alt-rock bop that grabs your attention right away with its boisterous drums and instantaneously catchy guitar hook. The laid back vocals describe the joy of gathering with friends and reminiscing, even when our stories can be incomplete, or contradictory. The music video, edited to look like a single shot, is full of blink-and-you’ll-miss-it details. It’s a fun romp through a familiar seeming apartment following a day in the life of the band as they fix up their house, play games on the floor, and rock out in the dining room. The chemistry between the band members is clear, and looking at how much fun they’re having in this video echoes the dreamy ear candy provided by the music. Hyooman’s songcrafting skills are top-notch, and they’ve put together a hell of a single. We can’t wait to see where they go next.

“I had this idea of doing a music video similar to Everclear’s “Everything to Everyone” or the intro scene in the Josie and the Pussycats movie – where the camera pans/moves around the band and it looks like one shot. That provided the inspiration for the video and dictated the pace of the song before I wrote it.
The song is about not taking yourself too seriously and letting things go. The first verse is about dealing with a toxic person. The second verse is about not understanding art or “high” culture. The refrain “it’s okay I wouldn’t understand it anyway” is this attitude of “I can’t be bothered by any of that.” I’m learning to let things go so that I can focus on important things in my life and I can be myself. That energy is what fed into this song.” - Leng Moua, Hyooman
