FOX THEORY "NEW BEGINNING" MUSIC VIDEO PREMIERE
With a new year comes “New Beginning,” the latest song and music video from Fox Theory. This indie-punk bop is full of crunchy hooks of fists and guitars, and drummer Harris Worthman provides a beat down even before the baseball bat comes out. The vocals are pleasantly subdued and haunting, while the lyrics hit on multiple levels, being read on the surface as a band starting over and the hesitancy that comes with it, but also a critique of the DIY community as explained below.
“The song overall is about the anxiety that can come from starting a band and putting yourself out there (maybe the fantasy’s enough - I want to test the water before I jump)
The chorus references a short adult swim video by alan resnick “this house has people in it”
The chorus deals with us wanting a new beginning but “this house” (the diy scene) can sometimes feel overwhelming and already has too many “people” (bands) in it. Making it feel null to over saturate with a new one. The bridge eludes to storming the “castle” (scene) and the “petty tyrants on high ground” is dealing with diy gatekeepers and the cliques that can sometimes form within bigger bands. We also lost a member of the band, the title “new beginning” eludes to that too.” - Fox Theory
