VIAL "OR DIE" MUSIC VIDEO

March 27, 2020 by Andrew Perrizo in Video Premiere

With “Or Die,” VIAL sets a new high point for the Twin Cities’ DIY/punk scene. One of my favorite tracks on “Grow Up” gets an update as VIAL rereleases “DIY” under the new name “Or Die” via Brace Cove Records. Some of the updates include being engineered by Abe Anderson, and a more than punk enough music video shot by Slo Martin. The track gets some lyrical updates as well as a slight shift in the guitar tone, causing the blitz of a song to rock even harder. VIAL can explain everything better than I can, so I’ll step aside and let them take over.

“We wrote "Or Die" (Formerly known as "DIY") when we first became a band because we saw the local scene and how cis-Masculine it felt. Playing Minneapolis shows at bars and houses over the last year has definitely cemented into place the message of "Or Die," being folks who are at a racial, gender, or monetary advantage not being able to reflect on their own actions (That are gate-keeping in nature) causing other folks to be too uncomfortable to take up space.
As members of VIAL and being all women and non-binary, we've always felt as if we need to present as a very bull-headed, unified force in order to be heard amongst all the voices that seem so much louder. "Or Die" is hopefully a step towards amplifying voices that haven't been given a platform thus far, specifically queer folks and folks of color. The "Or Die" music video is autobiographical in that it portrays stories of instances we've encountered throughout our time gigging locally that have felt like pushback of the "older" scene as we've tried to make a name for ourselves.” - VIAL

We also asked VIAL if they had anything else they wanted to promote. And since they’re the coolest band ever, here was their response:
