Top songs on the Minnesota Sound playlist.

daycare "Life is a Petting Zoo"
“Life is a Petting Zoo” is a jam packed, chaotic indie pop punk track with tongue in cheek lyricism and a clean mix. The instrumental is full of twists and turns, featuring unexpected chord changes and a breakneck tempo. The vocals are front and center, dry, and delivered with a cheeky, infectious energy. This is the band's first single from their upcoming album “College as Daycare / Daycare as Heaven or Hell.”

Tayyy "Berries & Cream"
“Berries & Cream” is a hip-hop track with a relaxed, laid back beat and engaging verses. The drums hit hard with big samples, interspersed with a sparse bass groove and subtle synth pads. The song prominently features Tayyy rapping with a relaxed yet confident cadence. This song comes from Tayyy’s 2022 album “SEVENTEEN.”

Beaut "Buried"
“Buried” is a gorgeous piece of synth pop that feels fresh and full of life. The bass lines are energizing and ethereal. A shuffling drum groove builds upon a soft bed of synthesizers that washes the listener in euphoric harmonies. The vocals are small, placed in the center of the mix amidst the swirl of instrumentation. The retro guitar leads are a major highlight here as well. This is Beaut’s latest single.

December Friends "Skater Kid"
“Skater Kid” is an indie rock reflection on youth, centering around the feelings that surround growing up. Appropriately the song sounds almost like a coming-of-age film, dreamy guitar-driven instrumentation and backup singers give the song the perfect feeling of nostalgia. The progression of the song's arrangement builds to a wonderful climax, full of emotion. This song comes from the band's album “Splendor Never Dies.”

Ray Gun Youth "I Got a Job"
Garage rock single “I Got a Job” is a track full of fuzzy guitars, big drums and sarcastic lyrics about the grind of working a normal job. The lyrics stylistically take an “on the nose” approach, sprinkled with a bit of comedy and pointed sarcasm. Overall the song is a promising debut from Ray Gun Youth.

Mike Rez "Filtration"
“Filtration” is a bit different from the music we’ve covered on this playlist so far. The song was created using the help of Artificial Intelligence. Despite its technological roots, the track sounds quite good, with a solid mix and a distinctly synth wave sound. It’s certainly a fascinating testament to the abilities of AI and how when utilized alongside human input, cool things can happen.
