Northwoods Boy is a classic. Reminiscent of John Denver and the like, the Kung Fu Hippies really capture the Folk-Rock Americana feel in their new music video. The simplicity is what does it for me, really. Just a bunch of buds hanging out, playing music, and having a good time in the great outdoors. Can’t get more Americana than that. “The city is a lonely place, that rips my heart apart” is a line that definitely resonates with someone who grew up in the great north woods. They call this one a “Spaghetti Northern”, and I can’t agree more.

“‘Northwoods Boy’ is the first single from our new studio effort, with Jon Herchert at the knobs. The song is a timeless tale of the singer's desire to go back to a simpler time, reflecting on his rural upbringing in Northern Minnesota. Featuring a dark and somewhat foreboding groove, efforts were partaken to create the essence of a Sergio Leone "Spaghetti Western" with its instrumentation and high-noon shootout groove. In the end, the singer comes full circle, singing the songs of joy that well up from the bosom of his soul. The frozen shore beckons the listener to give it a second and third spin after the first listen.” - Kung Fu Hippies
