KPT INTERVIEW AND TICKET GIVE AWAY
Melodic Noise: Can you introduce yourself and pronouns?
KPT: I'm KPT and prefer he/him.
Melodic Noise: How's your day going?
KPT: Pretty well so far, it's early yet though!
Melodic Noise: Your new album is dark and moody, with a lot of tension. How do you go about composing that?
KPT: It's truly just what comes out. I'm a huge fan of horror/suspense and science fiction, so I'm sure that influences what I create. If you're inquiring about the technical side though, I use a mixture of both hardware and software, although I keep progressing further to the hardware side of things.
Melodic Noise: Your music is experimental and challenging, which can be difficult for people to casually listen to. What is something you want more casual listeners to know about your music?
KPT: Oooh. Good question. My music might not necessarily be for the casual listener. It can be pretty immersive and experimental at times. I'd say if they'd still like to give it a shot, try putting it on in the background while you're doing chores at first.
Melodic Noise: What was your recording process for the album, and how was it different because of the pandemic?
KPT: I usually start out by writing all-new original material for a live event. Once the event has passed, I'll revisit my set (recorded at the event or re-performed later in the studio) and select elements to polish and turn into "official" songs. Three of the six songs on Obliterate have been around in some form for a little while and the three others are fairly new. Those followed a more traditional writing and recording process. "White Crosses" in particular, was written and recorded on January 6th while the insurrection at the Capitol was occuring.
Melodic Noise: Give/Take seems like a great label with lots of unique artists doing really interesting things. Can you tell me a bit about Give/Take and some of the other artists on the label?
KPT: GIVE/TAKE is the label I run with my business partner Augustus. We're looking to exemplify true auteurism in electronic music. From deathpop to synth pop, dark wave to industrial. We've both got decades of experience in the industry as musicians, label owners/operators, etc. and we truly just love supporting artists we believe in. We've got artists worldwide currently, and we're definitely looking to expand our Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois roster specifically.
Melodic Noise: You've got a show coming up at SolSta Records on August 7th that we are helping sponsor, who all is involved and how did it come about?
KPT: SolSta is great, and as both KPT and GIVE/TAKE, they've carried our releases and supported us from the start... This year, we partnered-up for the Record Store Day drops and SolSta offered the showcase opportunity. We took it and ran. EbE404 is another GIVE/TAKE artist, so it only made sense to include them and Tanya Leigh has been a friend of both of ours for years and should be pleasantly fitting.
Melodic Noise: What are your feelings about getting back in front of an audience after a year and a half of no shows?
KPT: I'm hyped. This should be a really cool reentrance into live music for a lot of people. More casual environment, non-traditional venue. A good opportunity to get out and show support for the arts.
Melodic Noise: Do you have anything special planned for your performance?
KPT: I'm just looking forward to seeing people again. Haha. So yes, I'll probably socialize far more than I normally would.
Melodic Noise: Have you had a chance to catch any live music yet? If yes, who? If not, are there other local artists you're hoping to catch live?
KPT: I've not caught any live music yet, but at this point, I'm going to start checking off my live music bucket-list before something like this happens again. Locally, I'll likely catch WannaBianca, VIAL and Juice Lord.
Melodic Noise: Do you have anyone you want to thank/shout out?
KPT: Thanks to you for the platform and your support. To everyone that's helped to make Obliterate a success, I appreciate you.
