LAZENLOW "PRETTY DARK" PREMIERE

April 21, 2020 by Andrew Perrizo in Album Review

Lazenlow’s new LP “Pretty Dark” shows us a more evolved Lazenlow than their previous EP’s ‘Rich Kid$’ and ‘w/a/v/e/s’, released almost a year ago which. Lazenlow defined their style with “w/a/v/e/s”, but on “Pretty Dark” they allow themselves some tweaks on every song.

GOOD COMPANY'S 4/20 SPECIAL: MINNESOTA COLD'S "DOPESAUCE" AND MIJO'S "OMENS"

April 20, 2020 by Paul Thorson in Album Review

Now, for those of you who know me through my writing and my music might be perplexed that I’m writing about a project under my group's moniker. Minnesota Cold has evolved in the decade of its existence. A product of boredom and isolation of the stixxx in rural Minnesota, MC grew into a wide umbrella for a couple “nameless” artists.

UNCLE T "LATE BLOOMER" REVIEW

April 17, 2020 by Paul Thorson in Album Review

Like the saying says: “Better late than never.” That saying is fitting for the late-in-life emcee Uncle-T. Hip-Hop gave Uncle T a second shot at success and notoriety in the fleeting moments of youth.

OFTENER "DAYDREAM" EP REVIEW

March 31, 2020 by Andrew Perrizo in Album Review

Oftener have their heads in the clouds. Although their pillowy strain of -gaze rock draws inspiration from countless rougher and rawer sounds, this Minneapolis four-piece filters their songs through the internal monologues of a head lain down for bed.

KING BROWN "KING BROWN EP" REVIEW

March 16, 2020 by Andrew Perrizo in Album Review

Ostensibly named after a deadly Australian Outback snake, Minneapolis two-piece King Brown loose a fevered hunger with the unhinged attack to match. In the vein of many notable blues based duos, Alex Ashmun pulls double duty, singing and riffing over drummer Aaron Esnough's propulsion.

ICEBLINK "CARPET COCOON" REVIEW

March 10, 2020 by Andrew Perrizo in Album Review

Iceblink’s new album “Carpet Cocoon” follows the path of their previous EP self-titled “Iceblink,” released back in 2017. With a sound that reminiscence ambient and experimental music from the 70’s, the main composer, Lynn Avery, likes to define as “bedroom new age.”

GOWNS "THE HOLLOWS" ALBUM REVIEW

February 28, 2020 by Andrew Perrizo in Album Review

Reminiscent of the “The” bands of the early 2000s, Gowns’s upcoming EP “The Hollows” achieves a sound that is simultaneously nostalgic and fresh. John Bair’s crooning vocals immediately stand out over the often echo affected guitar from Evan Willie and Eric Wagner, the tight but groovy drums of Zach Reiff, and the grounding tones of bassist Brian Wagner.

Sx3.H.W.A (STUFF SOMEONE SHOULD HAVE WRITTEN ABOUT) #1: DARREN SIPITY "WEAKENED WARRIOR"

February 21, 2020 by Paul Thorson in Album Review

Sometimes dope content doesn’t get the coverage it deserves upon its release. No one swoops at the chance to cover something worth talking about. An un watchful eye or timing may be to blame. Whatever the reason, I started this series to highlight dope projects that never had a write up; but should’ve.

From uncovering nostalgia, to paying the present a tribute, as well as penning the future, Tuvok the Word covers the love that inspired his inaugural project, “Namesake.”  Not only does Tuvok express his love that inspired him, he also delves into his pain and short-comings that also play a catalyst in this 6-track, 24 minute EP.
